Here are our favorite banned album covers for heavy metal and hard rock. What does it take to be banned cover art? Usually the album that the art covers should be pulled, recalled from retailers, or covered in some way to obscure the buy from seeing the actual cover art. Rock n’ Roll View has to like the album (at least one of us) or it couldn’t get on the list. Everyone knows there are more than 10 banned albums; this list is just the best ones. You make up your own mind if they should be banned or not.

Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland

This one was banned in the US for all the naked ladies on the cover. I suppose Jimi really wanted to capture the essence of what it was to be at the Electric Ladyland.

Scorpions - Virgin Killers

The cover designer of this album took some liberties with this one. According to the Scorpions, the song Virgin Killers is about lost youth. This a great album too.

It took some balls to put this photo on this album. Props to you John, even you both are ugly as hell.

Spinal Tap - Smell the Glove

Spinal Tap-Smell the Glove
The original art of a greased up girl on all fours being forced to smell a glove is lost to history. You will have to settle for the replacement cover. This one was banned at Sears and Kmart. It can’t get much blacker than this.

Guns n’ Roses – Appetite for Destruction
The ban might have something to do with the rape scene. They moved this to the inside so you couldn’t see until you paid for it. Cracker Jacks.
