Anvil: The Story of Anvil (featuring Trailer)

A band that has been forgotten for two decades, Anvil, reemerges in the mind of pop culture with the movie Anvil: The Story of Anvil. This movie can be blamed on the writer of The Terminal (Tom Hanks), Sasha Gervasi. I can’t say that I was ever a huge Anvil fan, but I do recall them. I even recall what they sounded like, but they never came on my radar. That is until now with the coming release of the movie. VH1 Classic and specifically That Metal Show is really giving this band a lift, and I think they deserve it. I was able to dig up a couple of releases: Metal on Metal and Speed of Sound. I won’t do reviews with this post, but I will say that I see the error of my ways back in the day. These two album that I have listened to are really good…surprisingly good.

Metal on Metal from 1982 seems to be a NWOBHM album for the most part with a glimmer of what would become thrash. They sound a bit like Saxon and Budgie mushed together on this album. Speed of Sound from 2000 sounds a bit more like Motorhead. Both of these albums are worth having and fun to listen to if you are a heavy metal fan. If you are reading this, you are probably a heavy metal fan. I will see if I can dig up a few more and take the best one and do a full review. I look forward to that.

In the mean time, I will give you a couple of track to have a listen to:

Anvil – Metal on Metal

Anvil – Jackhammer

Anvil – Mortha

The movie will be opening in Canada and the US the month of April. VH1 Classic will also be presenting the Anvil Experience which I believe to be the movie and a live performance by Anvil.  Head on over to the Anvil Movie Web site for a full run down of when to see the movie, see the band or join the Anvil Army.
