The Runaways Feat. Joan Jett & Lita Ford (Photo Gallery)

The Runaways Featuring Joan Jett & Lita Ford Unless you have been living in a rockless world you know who the Runaways are. Just in case, I’ll refresh your memory. Not only did the Runaways launch the careers of two queens of rock, Joan Jett and Lita Ford, they were probably the first girl rock band that rocked as hard as the guys. With their sass and explosive brand of rock n roll, The Runaways became an almost instant success.

The band lasted from 1975 until 1979. Despite their short lifespan, they have left a mark on music and popular culture. Take note of the movie in theaters now. (See the Runaways move trailer over here.) This photo gallery celebrates them.

I second that! And Joan Jet went on to become one of my heroes. I’m now learning to play the Guitar, and women like her and Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson’s guitarist) are a true inspiration to female musicians everywhere.

Cool photos of The Runways! I saw the movie when it came out a month or two ago. For some reason I didn’t realize how shortlived the band was, and I also didn’t realize how huge Joan Jett was when she went solo. And I had forgotten Cherie Currie was in that move Foxes, which I saw for the first time a few years ago…
