Label: Independent Artist.
About the Artist: This latest CD “Dub in the District” (2012) from Composer Brendan Dane features Dane himself on the majority of instrumentation, sampling and compositions. I also get the impression he engineers his own productions. Dane himself hails fromWashington D.C. and was recently named “Best New Artist of 2011 – dubside.com
Review: “Dub in the District” is one release that certainly doesn’t disappoint. This is one artist that brings to the table effective songwriting with an amazing yet highly diversified musical delivery meshed with a superlative Ambient/Ragas/Dub sound. ALIFIC even touches on classic Chill and Progressive Trance. This CD is quite entertaining with an infectious musical persona coupled with well-crafted movements and top tiered musical tidbits that come at you from every direction. Clearly one can see Dane put allot of effort into this, as each piece has a thickly layered production delivery. Overall this was an emotional journey which will have you listening on the edge of your seat. All in all – all songs are wonderfully simple but masterful in their overall arrangements. Music reminded me of a cross between Rebelution and 10Ft Ganja Plant. There are some fantastic moments on this CD which gives ALIFIC an amazing feel when connecting with a cult fanbase. What’s more, the production expertise of Dane is never called into question. He clearly has all the solid production instincts necessary of a marquee talent. .
Criticism: Some would say Dane’s overall sound is a bit overly synthetic, plastic, one dimensional and lacks live performance elements. Some of this comes with the territory no doubt. However I will add other world class composers like Moby combine the best of both worlds. If Dane can incorporate some of the above successfully it will yet add another dimension to Danes work and make it 100% waterproof.

Conclusion: Brendan Dane of ALIFIC is clearly a very talented and capable songwriter/musician/artist. I must admit “Dub in the District” sucked me in like a powerful drug refusing to let go long after it was over. This usually indicates he is something special about the artist deserving of praise, recognition and musical fame at the international level. .
