The Gashers – Law in not Order

Band/Artist: The Gashers

Album: Law in not Order

About the Band: This is the debut statement from Las Vegas 3 piece Punk Rock band The Gashers entitled “Law is not Order” released in 2012. Band members include Jason (Guitar, Vocals), Sandy (Drums, vocals), James (Bass and Vocals). During my preliminary research on this band I discovered The Gashers have built a solid reputation with the region for their old school approach to music.

Review: Their latest CD entitled Law is not Order was released in 2012 (Squidhat Records). I have to say I was extremely impressed with the opening 3 tracks “Stuffed”, “Panic” and “Occupy”. All 3 songs made quite the first impression on me as each one possessed my full unadulterated attention. To be honest: I expected cheesy Indy Rock that was extremely predictable and shallow in nature – very compatible for a mass audience. Well shame on me because what I discovered was actually quite the opposite. The whole CD is wonderfully conservative yet full of what I would call powerful and explosive energy with music that appeals to so many different senses on so many different levels. It reminds me of Hole, L7, The Distillers and Lunachicks. I can also hear the slight Alternative Rock, Hard Rock influence in there as well like Rancid and even The Mighty Bostones. What I really like about The Gashers is there is no attempt to sugar coat the truth or deliver what I call over the top alt rock. Cheezy music with a pretty face via top flight sampling, cookie cutter songwriting via a mix that sounds more like a commercial than a piece of music. It will also appeal to both advanced and novice listeners alike – but make no bones about it this is Old School Punk however you slice it. Whatever kind of listening level you’re on – some will identify with things while others will not. Like a three layered cake The Gashers are one band that has alot of depth and has so much to offer. Weather it’s musically, lyrically, inspirationally, emotionally, spiritually – if you feel like music is taking us in the wrong direction than rest assured The Gashers is taking us back in the right direction with Law is no Order.

Favorite Track: Occupy

Criticism: A few more solos please also try a different drum beat every now and then.

Conclusion: The Gashers will affirm your faith in Punk again. One line in their bio that strikes me: If you know anything about Las Vegas punk then you know about the legendary Peccadilloes. Maybe you’ve seen someone wearing their shirt or perhaps you’ve heard them on the Double Down Saloon juke box. If you’re one of the lucky ones, you caught them live. Yeah, if you know anything about real punk, you know them. And you know what “fuck you” is supposed to sound like.” There you go. The Gashers are unique, hard working punk rock band that know their way around a dive bar, a catchy song and a concert stage. They represent all that is good in music and their latest CD Law is no Order delivers a highly passionate 14 track catalog via action packed musicianship, entertaining songwriting and music that covers all the bases: Alternative Rock, Punk and Indy Rock.

Final Rating: 5 Star Rating Average – This CD gets 4 Stars
