Doug Prescott is a Blues, Roots, Americana, Alt Country, Rock from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. According to Jordan Lawrence from the Independent; “By day, Doug Guild is the president and CEO of Prescott Environmental Associates, a Chapel Hill consulting firm that helps clients keep their operations clean and green. By night, Guild goes by the name of Doug Prescott, performing soul/blues tunes that take hard-hitting shots at corporate excess that wouldn’t fly in the workplace. It’s a little like how the rich and excessive Bruce Wayne dons the cape and mask to crush thugs as Batman, only Prescott throws on colorful leisure shirts and jeans.”

I always listen to the opening track extremely carefully. It’s the opening track the artist has selected to hit your ears first and foremost. The opening title track “Happy Enough Song” sets the stage rather well for a CD live like this. It also presents the sometimes funny tongue n’ cheek musical storyteller humor of Prescott. It was a great intro piece that stuck in my head and had me eager for what lied ahead. All in all the whole CD is brilliantly delivered with a richly woven Classic-Rock texture with songs that have serious popish staying power. Music will remind you of Delbert McClinton, Little Feat, Asleep At The Wheel, Allman Bros Band, Dire Straits and Van Morrison. To be honest I can’t say enough about Prescott’s appeal and overall signature sound. “Hot Night in November” captures a very essence of Americana Soul-Rock that grabs the listener right from the get go. Prescott is clearly musical veteran and this CD has a sound that favors many male pop artists in the late 70’s yet with a modern day feel. I’ve never heard an artist so skillfully combine so many genera’s into one unique sound. Weather this is by design or simply by accident it’s amazing. This CD covers all the bases: Blues, Roots, Americana, Alt Country, Rock.

The songs that stuck with me the most were “Happy Enough Song”, “Hideaway” and “Beach Wedding”.

If there was one word I would use to describe Doug Prescott it would be diversified. This CD will simply make your day more entertaining, but there is an undeniable passion beneath all this that is all things Americana/Soul. It’s easy to see why Prescott is making waves out east. He is a capable songwriters and performer. He is backed up by some solid players, and let me go on record and say this is how a good live CD is supposed to sound. This CD spoke to me personally and inspired me on so many different levels. In close “Hot Night in November “ has everything it’s tile implies.

Overall Rating: 8.5/10
