Fate’s Maze is an Alternative/Classic Rock band that come to us from Twin Cities. Minnesota. Fate’s Maze is based in the Twin-Cities metro area of Minnesota in the USA. The name “Fate’s Maze” is a metaphor for life. Life is a maze. Your path through life is determined by the choices available to you (circumstance) and the choices you make (free will). The music is melodic, dramatic and thought provoking. Songs range from the more standard structure & instrumentation for rock/metal to the more unconventional, including some spoken word and sound effect samples for dramatic effect.
This latest effort entitled “Gothic Dreams” is one release that certainly doesn’t disappoint. This is one band that brings to the table effective songwriting via a highly diversified musical delivery. This meshed with a one in a million Prog-Rock sound and well rounded songwriting make for an effective combination. Fate’s Maze even touch on Hard Alt-Rock with hints of Jam Band, and Ambient-Theatrical Metal. All songs are wonderfully simple but masterful in their overall arrangements. Music reminded me of a cross between Styx, Chevelle, 10 Years, and Evans Blue. This CD though a bit winded with much in the way of musical meandering it’s still quite entertaining and almost fascinating overall with an amazing vocal front and production expertise of Tim Carlson. All songs are amazing via well-crafted pieces and top flight musicianship. There are some incredible moments on this CD. Many songs simply personify the human experience which gives Fate’s Maze an amazing feel in it’s attempt to connect with a cult fanbase locally or abroad.
Favorite Tracks: Thinking of You, Castle Walls, I love the Nights
Criticism: URL loos very amateurish. CD over art looks a tad bit cheezy. Also Tim should replace all the cover songs with his own material. 1-2 cover songs is enough.
Tim Carlson has proven themselves with this latest release. He is clearly an undiscovered Progressive Juggernaut around Minnesota must admit Gothic Dreams sucked me in like a powerful drug and refused to let go long after the CD was over. This usually indicates he is something special about the artist or band in question. Thus deserving praise, recognition and musical fame at the international level.
