Review: “Children’s Parade” is his latest release from David Pitone and this group from Philly and the result though far from a self-indulgent ego trip, rather a moving and elegiac artistic statement from start to finish. This is not your overly predictable Ramon Noodle “Sing-Songy” Daughtry Rock band. Instead Wooden HEZ who hails from Philadelphia could even be classed as a 3 genera band: Alternative Rock, Hard Rock, and Psychedelic Punk. Wooden HEZ has way too much precision and clarity to live in the shadows of overly-predictable Melodic Rock. Indeed this is clearly evident in songs like “Sinner”, “Old Skin” and “Walk By” which methodically ups the ante to a very respectable level of catchy musical craftsmanship and addictive melody that transcends pigeonholing. The music is not so commercially viable mainly because of the fuzzy sound quality but still delivers a rumbtlw tumble sound that holds the attentions span of the listener adequately. In a nutshell this is a mehodicaly combination of Pink Floyd, Wilco and The Doors. “Childrens Parade” appeals to many listeners with a wide variety of musical styles – but it packs a powerful punch and a powerful voice for all the rockers out there who want something more than the current status quos.

Favorite track: Old Skin

Criticism: Poor Sound Quality overall. The beats sound like they belong on a 1980 Atari Video Game. It honestly got old on my really nice speakers, and I told myself there’s only so much of this I can take. I’m not a fan of the cover art. CD cover art and some of the other aspects of the package lack a slick professional look. I’m not really impressed with these items.

Conclusion: I would imagine in time we will hear more from this artist in the near future as his sound evolves. Wooden HEZ has still carved a marketable niche for himself on a few of these tracks thus setting himself up for marketable success down the road in Philadelphia. But for now I can honestly say this is one artist that clearly gives you a musical snapshot that is highly original, unique and dare I say dangerously chaotic in scope.

3/5 Stars
