Seconds Before Landing

SBL2Band/Artist: Seconds Before Landing
Album: The Great Deception

This is the latest release from Pittsburgh mammoth rock project featuring Composer John Crispin at the helm with over a dozen musical collaborators – including members of many prominant bands The second release entitled “The Great Deception” was released in 2013 and has received its fair share of good press locally and abroad thus far. “The Great Deception” 14 song CD is the result, though far from a self-indulgent ego trip, rather a moving and elegiac artistic statement from start to finish. This is not your overly predictable Ramon Noodle “Sing-Songy” Nikelback-esque Rock band. No – Seconds Before Landing have way too much precision, creativity and musical clarity to live in the shadows of overly-predictable Indie Rock such as this. Indeed this is clearly evident in songs like: They’re All Around You, Elmendorf, and Solitary Man, which methodically ups the ante to a very respectable level of catchy musical craftsmanship and addictive hard rocking riff-manship that transcends pigeonholing. What’s more: the music is also commercially viable with a unique Theatrical spaced out sound yet with a jagged edge that holds the attentions span of the listener perfectly. In a musical threeway between Emerson Lake and Palmer, Tool and even King Crimson – yeah you can quote me. If that isn’t a cutting edge compliment then I don’t know what is. This 14 song line-up appeals to many listeners with a wide variety of musical styles – but it packs a powerful punch with a powerful voice for all the disenchanted rockers out there who want something more than Nikelback, Daughtry or Lifehouse.

The songs that stuck with me the most were: They’re All Around You, Elmendorf, and Solitary Man,

I would imagine in time we will hear more from this amazing group of artists the near future, hoverver John Cirspino is the man who brought all this together. No doubt Seconds Before Landing featuring John Crispino has carved a marketable niche for themselves thus far setting them up for marketable success down the road. But for now I can honestly say this is one artist (Crispino) that clearly gives you a musical snapshot that is highly original, unique and dare I say dangerous and melodic in scope.
