Metallica & Jeff Beck Are Inducted Into the Hall of Fame

Does anyone really care who has been inducted into the Hall of Fame this year? As a foot note, I’ll just mention it breifly for those who stumble on this and scratch their heads. I’ll just tell you, Black Sabbath was not inducted this year, again. Oh wait, they did get inducted back in 2006. It took them until 2006? Are you kidding me? Anyway… For us rock fans, we did get two this year in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. St. Anger forgotten for the moment, Metallica has received the honor. On the strength of their latest...

Circus of Power – Call of the Wild – Music Video

Posted by on Jan 21, 2009 in Music Videos | 0 comments

New York City’s answer to Gun’s n’ Roses, Circus of Power, was and is one of my favorite bands. The self titled debut should be on my list of best debut albums. I can remember playing air guitar and lip syncing to Call of the Wild many times. They had a lot of tattoos,  hard, fuzzy and grinding sound that either made you think you were a biker of godley proportions or a modern day Zues. Circus of Power was no hair metal band. Some have called it swamp boogie and motor metal. Buckcherry may be the closest thing to them...

The Best Debut Albums in Rock Music

Posted by on Jan 19, 2009 in Helter Skelter | 1 comment

There are many lists of top albums, heavy metal, hard rock, the 80′s, the 70′s…you name it. These lists come from everywhere including Rolling Stone, VH1, your local radio station and even your mother. There are fewer lists of debut albums, but they do exist. After looking at a few of these lists, I came to the conclusion that these people who are making these lists must not really listen to music at all, at least not rock music. They really must be compiling their list while sipping coffee at Starbucks. I’ll skip the...

U2 Plays Barack Obama’s Inauguration Concert

Posted by on Jan 18, 2009 in News & Rumors | 0 comments

I’m not much for politics, but it is worth mentioning that U2 played the Inauguration Concert on Sunday night. At first thought, it doesn’t  seem quite right for an Irish band to play something completly American. But, they did play the song that they wrote about Martin Luther King, Jr., Pride (In the Name of Love). I’ve always loved this song and I think that it is fitting. It’s fitting not becuase Barack Obama is black, but because America will not see him as a black president, but the President. That’s how it...

Stoned Again with Sword from Metalized (Canadian Metal)

Posted by on Jan 16, 2009 in Music Videos | 1 comment

A couple of weeks ago, I was having a conversation with a young rock fan (who shall remain anonymous). This young rock fan has been raised proper and has good taste in music, so these conversations are usually a pleasure with both trading ideas. In this conversation, the young rock fan asked me if I have ever heard of The Sword. “Well, hell yeah”, I said. He went on to show me a couple of videos on YouTube. As the songs played, I relized that The Sword is not the same as Sword, which is what I was thinking. I didn’t say...

Budgie Self Titled Debut Album Review

The Rock n’ Roll View has established as part of its mission to expose rock music that is influential and important to our readers that may not be familiar with. Let’s face it; there is a vast amount of artists that have never reached the top 40 in the U.S. that are valid and important. One such rock group that has been important and influential is the Welsh grand fathers of heavy metal, Budgie. Established in 1967 they went on to be a staple on the touring circuit in the early to mid 70’s. Their sound has been compared to Black Sabbath...

Led Zeppelin Reunion Rumors are Bust

Posted by on Jan 13, 2009 in News & Rumors | 0 comments

The millions of fans of Led Zeppelin can sigh in relief, the reunion rumors are over. “Led Zeppelin are over!” Jimmy Page’s manager declared this past week. After more than a year of tour and reunion rumours, Peter Mensch wants the gossiping to cease. “There are absolutely no plans for [the band] to continue. Zero. Frankly, I wish everybody would stop talking about it.” Of course, it’s Mensch himself who fanned the flames of rumour this week, thanks to a BBC 6 Music interview in which he predicted a Led...

The Fireman – Electric Arguments in Review (CD/Album)

The Fireman – Electric Arguments in Review (CD/Album)

The  Fireman – Electric Arguments, the third release from the Paul McCartney plus Youth project with McCartney playing most of the instruments. One would expect The Fireman to produce a more ambient experience; Electric Arguments is more “White Album” and “Ram” than anything techno/electronic. The opening track, Nothing Too Much Just Out of Sight, is train rolling from the same tracks as the best angst blues. Raging on as a song, that for rockers, is playable over and over. Where McCartney can gather the steam for this track, I’ll...
